Linda Soh Trengereid - Gjengangere
We're excited to present this solo exhibition by Linda Soh Trengereid.
This exhibition will show new paintings in different scales. The word “gjenganger” in Norwegian can be translated to English as “ghost” or as “something that repeatedly comes around”. One of the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s most famous plays bears the same name. As a play it can be interpreted as a critique of social structures of control, family boundaries, and adopted or toxic morality. Both Trengereid and Ibsen dwells with the ties and conflicts between human nature and man's culture.
Trengereid’s artistic universe has its parallels to 19th century Norwegian art history and landscape depictions on one side, and the visual from fantasy culture and sci-fi on the other. The content has, as Ibsen’s plays, an existentialist tone, focusing on the clashes between absence and presence, what has passed and what will come. There are also elements of Norwegian folklore and pantheism in her works. When Trengereid paints, she will always start with a layer of charcoal drawings, before she adds colors in acrylic paint. This creates a meticulous impression that drags the spectator into the sceneries and her universe.
